There weren't many boats in Rome, but there aren't many paved roads here.

The real Venice Beach, not that California pretender.

Vacation from vacation:

So overstressed by being on a school related vacation in Rome, we set off for Venice on Friday morning. Hmm... maybe that's overstating things. Rome is great, but there are other places in Italy we wanted to see. Friday and Saturday morning are Venice, Saturday night and Sunday morning are Florence, and Sunday afternoon we are set for Pisa. It's a hard life, isn't it?

We bought our train tickets midweek, and were slightly worried as there was a train strike set to begin on Friday (this was apparently averted at the last minute... thankfully). So with tickets in hand, we left our residence just before 6 a.m. to catch the 6:50 a.m. train to Venice.

The train ride was pleasant enough, but that is detailed in that section. Venice itself is fantastic (again, more on that inside). The only things not covered elsewhere are that we were going to check out the local casino on Lido (where we are staying), but found out it was closed/out of business. Instead we stopped at some dance party, and it turns out people in this town dance worse than your grandparents at a wedding reception.
