Jay's Photo Album Experiment
A number of my classmates are taking tomorrow's trip to Pompeii as an opportunity to skip over to Sorrento, just north of Naples, following the time in the ancient city. My roommate and I originally looked into spending the weekend on a very small island off the western coast of Italy, but the trip fell through when too few people signed up for it. So deciding to try to join the others in Sorrento, we went in search of CTS (a travel agency catering to students) to book a room at the hotel everyone else was staying in.
Prior to going in search of CTS, we stopped at the Vatican to send some mail home (a few postcards). Postage at the Vatican is the same cost as it is in the rest of Rome, but the Vatican's mail system is supposed to be much more reliable (in other words, people may get the cards prior to my return to the States). While crossing St. Peter's Square, my roommate took a picture of me in front of the great church (I hope that satisfies some people who seem to actually want to see me in photos).
In the end, we did not make it to CTS before it closed. The directions we received from a classmate were flawed (make a left at Victor Emanuel II and it'll be just to the right on a side street after a block or two does not indicate one needs to take the middle of three northern roads from the monument for about 10 blocks before walking halfway down Genoa). So the trip to Sorrento is up in the air. We'll have to see what happens.
